Graph Minors

چکیده
For a given graph G and integers b, f ≥ 0, let S be a subset of vertices of G of size b + 1 such that the subgraph of G induced by S is connected and S can be separated from other vertices of G by removing f vertices. We prove that every graph on n vertices contains at most n/ b+f b such vertex subsets. This result from extremal combinatorics appears to be very useful in the design of several enumeration and exact algorithms. This significantly improves previous algorithms for these problems. Graph minors and graphs on surfaces
Graph minors and the theory of graphs embedded in surfaces are fundamentally interconnected. Robertson and Seymour used graph minors to prove a generalization of the Kuratowski Theorem to arbitrary surfaces [37], while they also need surface embeddings in their Excluded Minor Theorem [45]. Various recent results related to graph minors and graphs on surfaces are presented.
متن کاملHypertree-depth and minors in hypergraphs
We introduce two new notions for hypergraphs, hypertree-depth and minors in hypergraphs. We characterise hypergraphs of bounded hypertree-depth by the ultramonotone robber and marshals game, by vertex-hyperrankings and by centred hypercolourings. Furthermore, we show that minors in hypergraphs are ‘well-behaved’ with respect to hypertree-depth and other hypergraph invariants, such as generalise...
متن کاملForbidden Directed Minors and Directed Pathwidth
Undirected graphs of pathwidth at most one are characterized by two forbidden minors i.e., (i) K3 the complete graph on three vertices and (ii) S2,2,2 the spider graph with three legs of length two each [BFKL87]. Directed pathwidth is a natural generalization of pathwidth to digraphs. In this paper, we prove that digraphs of directed pathwidth at most one are characterized by a finite number of...
متن کاملGraphs of Small Rank-width Are Pivot-minors of Graphs of Small Tree-width
We prove that every graph of rank-width k is a pivot-minor of a graph of tree-width at most 2k. We also prove that graphs of rank-width at most 1, equivalently distance-hereditary graphs, are exactly vertex-minors of trees, and graphs of linear rank-width at most 1 are precisely vertex-minors of paths. In addition, we show that bipartite graphs of rank-width at most 1 are exactly pivot-minors o...
متن کاملForcing large complete minors in infinite graphs
It is well-known that in finite graphs, large complete minors/topological minors can be forced by assuming a large average degree. Our aim is to extend this fact to infinite graphs. For this, we generalise the notion of the relative end degree, which had been previously introduced by the first author for locally finite graphs, and show that large minimum relative degree at the ends and large mi...
متن کاملTree-depth and Vertex-minors
In a recent paper [6], Kwon and Oum claim that every graph of bounded rank-width is a pivot-minor of a graph of bounded tree-width (while the converse has been known true already before). We study the analogous questions for “depth” parameters of graphs, namely for the tree-depth and related new shrub-depth. We show that shrub-depth is monotone under taking vertex-minors, and that every graph c...
